So it begins..

I've started this blog to share my journey to reaching the start line (and hopefully the finish line) of the Outlaw Triathlon 2012. For those who aren't familiar with what I'm talking about, it's an Iron Distance triathlon, consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile run to finish off. Yes, one after the other. And yes, all in one day. Generally when I tell people of my intention, I'm met with incredulous faces, followed by laughter, quickly turning to confusion as they realise I'm serious. 'Why the hell would you want to do that..!?' shortly follows.
So WHY do I want to put myself through that? I actually don't have a solid reason. A mix of wanting a challenge, (Everyone does the marathon now, I have to go one better) wanting to see how far I can go, (without collapse) and maybe I'm a secret masochist. (No comment)  Bragging rights for the rest of my life and doing something wonderful before I'm 30 are also in there. As well as being able to have an extra slice of cake because ''I'm training, I need the carbs''. Always a great incentive.
I am not a super human trim and toned athlete, I don't look great in lycra, and given a choice between going for a run or sitting on my sofa with a bar of galaxy the trainers would remain in the cupboard.
I'm just an ordinary person, who has signed up for an extraordinary challenge. Can't be that hard can it? Haha.. We'll see ;)
